SCHOOL HOURS
Daycare is available in the Campbell Center between 7:00 and 7:45 a.m. The school is not responsible for students prior to this time.
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. Recurrent tardies by any student may affect the student’s records, even though it is primarily the parent’s fault for arriving late to school. A doctor or dental visit is an “excused” tardy and should have a note of verification. Traffic congestion en route to school or in the parking lot is a normal part of the daily commute and is not considered an excuse for tardiness. Please plan for extra travel time. Any other reason for tardiness may be expressed in the form of a note from the child’s parent or guardian.
DISMISSAL
At 2:50 p.m. prayer is said and general announcements are made over the public address system to provide important daily information. All students (preschool through eighth grade) are dismissed at 3:00 p.m. The children must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after dismissal time. At 3:15 p.m.., all children not picked up and supervised by a parent, are sent to the Daycare Program and a fee will be assessed at the end of the month. Children who walk home, ride a bicycle, or use public transportation must have written permission on file in the office. NO STUDENT IS PERMITTED TO WALK TO OR FROM A CAR WITHOUT AN ADULT. If a child is being picked up by someone other than a parent or designated carpool driver, a WRITTEN note must be sent to the teacher letting him/her know who has been authorized to pick up the child/children on that day.
Children are not allowed on the school grounds after the regular school hours without the direct and close supervision of a parent, teacher, or coach.
Early Dismissal Parents who request the release of their child/children during regular school hours must sign a release ledger, which is kept in the office, and state the reason for early dismissal before leaving the school. The child/children are then called to the office. For purposes of security, parents are not permitted to enter the classroom at any time when picking up a student for an early release.
DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP OF STUDENTS
For the safety and security of our students, dropping off students on Borchard and Sycamore Streets is prohibited. All students must be dropped off at the Wilshire Parking Lot. Parents/guardians are expected to park their car, and escort their child/children to the gate.
Students are not allowed to wait for their ride outside the school premises. Violation will result in disciplinary action.
If a person other that a parent transports the child to and from school, it is the parent's responsibility to make sure that this person is aware of the school regulations regarding this matter.
Extended Daycare supervision begins at 3:20 p.m. Therefore, any student not picked up by this time must sign-in for Daycare.
DAYCARE INFORMATION AND REGULATIONS
The Daycare Program is offered by Saint Anne School as a service to the parents and their children. The goal of the Daycare Program is to offer quality supervision by a competent and caring staff in an environment where the children feel safe and "at home". Each afternoon the students are able to participate in a period of free play, homework time, outdoor games, and inside activities to combine a balance of structured and unstructured time. Fees $2.00 a day for morning daycare (7:00 – 8:00 a.m.) $6.00 a day for after school care, or $2.00 an hour per student $10.00 a day for minimum days
Program Hours Students left in the classroom at 3:20 p.m. are taken to daycare. School ends at 3:00 p. m. and parents are given fifteen minutes courtesy time to pick up their children. The Daycare Program is offered on all school days, Monday through Friday, from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. Daycare is also available on all minimum days. Students who do not sign in for Daycare receive a disciplinary referral.
Emergencies/Safety All parents must fill out a blue Emergency Card and an Identification and Emergency Information form upon enrolling their child in Saint Anne School. This information is used by the daycare personnel. We ask that you keep the information on the form current.
In case of an illness or an accident during daycare, minor first aid will be administered. In cases which appear more serious, the local paramedics will be called. Parents are contacted immediately so that any necessary decisions may be made.
Homework A homework period is scheduled each day. It is the child's responsibility to do his or her homework. During this time children may work on their assignments under the supervision of Daycare staff. Children who have additional work are given a quiet place where they may continue until their homework is completed.
Daycare Expectations for Children's Behavior As members of a Christian community, children are expected to respect the staff, each other, and the materials provided. School rules always apply during the Daycare Program.
When there is an ongoing behavior problem with a child, the daycare personnel make every effort to work together with the Administration and the parents to resolve the situation. If there is, however, a lack of cooperation with no visible improvement, the school reserves the right to dismiss any child from the Daycare Program.
Students on a sports team must be picked up by their parent or driver immediately after the scheduled practice, otherwise, they are sent to Daycare and are charged accordingly. Students who avoid signing in for Daycare after practice or a game will receive a disciplinary referral as it is imperative that students be supervised at all times. Student athletes are expected to do their homework or to read. Under no condition may anyone remain on the school grounds without the direct supervision of a teacher or a coach.
ABSENCE
Absences for illness, medical or dental appointments, or family emergencies require a note from the parent describing the absence before a child is permitted to return to class. If a student is absent for only one day, the teacher will not arrange for homework to be sent home through the office. For absences of two days or longer, the parent may call the school before 10:00 a.m. to arrange homework assignments to be picked up in the office.
Absences for family trips are strongly discouraged as they deprive the student of vital classroom instruction and clarification. Although the student may make up some of the work within a reasonable time, it is important that the parents understand that the child's absence may significantly affect his/her grades. Therefore, family trips and other outings should be scheduled during the school holidays only.
PHILOSOPHY OF DISCIPLINE
We believe that the students should be praised for good behavior and that positive affirmation should be emphasized at all times. Students should be helped to realize their own self-worth and importance in our Catholic School Family.
The Saint Anne School Parent-Student Handbook is a primary source of information regarding the rules of the school and discipline. The Administration and Staff try to recognize appropriate and inappropriate behavior, treating the children in a firm but loving manner. The consequences for inappropriate behavior are clearly defined, making sure that all students understand their own inappropriate behavior when it does occur. Teachers set specific guidelines for acceptable classroom behavior. Each teacher formulates a procedure by which the students abide. At the beginning of the year a written notice is distributed to the students so that they are aware of what is expected. Appropriate consequences are provided for not following rules that have been set forth, responding sensitively to the individual needs of each student. Continued disregard of the rules by any student may result in the child being sent to the Administrative Team for further action.
Students are recognized in the classroom and in public assemblies for academic excellence, Christian citizenship, great progress, and for an outstanding homework record. Throughout the school year, students also receive positive reinforcement from their teachers.
Any misgivings that a parent might have regarding a teacher, homework, student behavior, uniform, etc. should not be discussed in front of the child, but rather discussed at a parent-teacher conference. Parents are expected to support the Administration, the Faculty, and the staff in their efforts to enforce the policies of the school. To preserve and promote the positive environment of St. Anne School community, parents who express on-going negativity and dissatisfaction are encouraged to pursue other educational options for their children. Any form of harassment towards a teacher, another parent, or one of our students may be grounds for dismissal from the school.
DISCIPLINE
Discipline in the Catholic School is to be considered as an essential aspect of Christian development. The purpose of discipline is:
· To educate students to appreciate the importance of developing Christian values, responsibility, and self-control; · To provide a classroom situation conducive to learning; · To help build a sense of community.
Should your child be the cause of a discipline problem and does not respond favorably to correction, you will be called and made aware of the situation. If it is necessary to keep the child after school for any reason, the teacher will notify you one day in advance of time so that appropriate plans can be made. Children will not be kept beyond one hour. If child is not picked up after detention, the child will be sent to Daycare and the fee will be charged.
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
A Christian attitude, exemplified in the student's behavior, is expected at Saint Anne School. This is demonstrated by showing respect for adults, for fellow students, and for property (one's own as well as that of others).
The following expectations apply to students at every level. Additional policies and procedures are stated in the classroom by each respective teacher:
1. Students may not disrupt the classroom atmosphere by inappropriate behavior. This includes smart remarks to make others laugh, name calling, passing notes, chewing gum, etc. 2. Students with uniform or haircut violations will remain in the office until their parent brings them the missing part of the uniform and/or takes them for a regulation haircut. 3. Classrooms, desks, and lockers should always be clean and neat. 4. There should be no running inside any building. 5. All textbooks must be covered with covering that does not stick to the book. 6. The cafeteria area and other school areas must be kept free of litter. Every student is responsible for neatness in the lunch area. 7. All food (snacks, ice cream, etc.), must be eaten at recess, after school, and not between classes or in the classroom. 8. Sunflower seeds and gum are never permitted on the school property. 9. Bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, etc. are not to be brought to school.
DETENTION
Detention will be served on a time and date to be given by the teacher or a member of the Administrative Team. Detentions are usually served after school, from 3:15 – 4:00 p. m. Morning detentions are from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. for tardiness.
Infractions requiring detention are: Gum chewing Tardiness Wearing makeup (nail polish, etc.) Violation of school regulations Excessive talking in the classroom/interrupting teacher Failure to wear complete uniform and/or physical education uniform on assigned P.E. days.
CONDUCT REFERRAL
Repeated corrections and warnings concerning infractions without response and improvement may merit a CONDUCT REFERRAL. The following action is taken when students receive a REFERRAL:
· Fighting · Foul Language · Damaging property · Disrespect toward teachers, parents or adults · Any other serious action that goes against the Philosophy and/or regulations of Saint Anne School.
1. First notice - is a warning. 2. Second notice - may result in a one to three day suspension from school. Student will be reinstated after a conference is held with the teacher and parents. 3. Third notice - may result in suspension or expulsion depending on the seriousness of the infraction.
EXPULSION
Expulsion is an extreme but sometimes necessary disciplinary measure for the common good. The following offenses committed by students while under the jurisdiction of the school are grounds for expulsion:
1. Actions gravely detrimental to their own moral and spiritual welfare and that of other students. 2. Continued use of profanity or vulgarity. 3. Assault, battery, or any threat of force or violence directed toward any school personnel or student, or their property. 4. Open, persistent defiance of the authority of the teachers or staff members. 5. Continued willful disobedience. 6. Use, sale, distribution, or possession of any alcoholic beverage or narcotics on or near the school premises or at a school-sponsored activity. 7. Bringing, carrying, or using any object that may be considered a weapon or used as a weapon, on school grounds. 8. Theft.
